Lil’ Libros - Marranitos-Puerquitos Recipe

“Eat” is one of their first words and cookies or pan will soon follow. This Puerquitos-Marranitos recipe is sure to be a family favorite. Crave out some time to bake with your little one.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 1 egg

Piloncillo Syrup:

  • 2 cups piloncillo (you can substitute with molasses)

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 2 cups water

  • 3 to 4 cloves

For Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg

Instructions:

Prep + cook time: 1 hour 35 min
Makes: 8

  • For the piloncillo syrup, place all the ingredients and boil until the piloncillo is dissolved and slightly thickened.

  • Measure 2 1/2 cups of syrup, let it cool and set aside.

  • In a large bowl or a strand mixer, mix the flour together with the baking soda, the baking powder, and salt.

  • Add the rest of the ingredients.

  • Mix until the butter and the rest of the ingredients are well incorporated.

  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.

  • Roll your dough out on a well floured surface, about a 1/2 inch thickness.

  • Cut the dough using a pig shaped cookie cutter, place on a baking sheet.

  • Brush on the egg wash.

  • Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes or until they are light brown.
